Echoes of the Extinct from Jyväskylä, Finland has released their debut album Era of Darkness April 25, 2025. Four-piece modern metal band founded in 2022 combines elements of progressive metal, metalcore and melodic death metal to create a unique, powerful and atmospheric sound.

Era of Darkness is the debut album of Echoes of the Extinct, and a powerful statement on the current condition of our planet and those who inhabit it. Musically, the album is the band’s interpretation of modern melodic death metal, a blend of melody, intensity, aggression and atmosphere. Lyrically, the album addresses the ecological collapse we are facing and the troubling direction humanity is heading driven by selfishness, intolerance, greed, and a refusal to acknowledge our place in the vastness of time and the universe. Era of Darkness holds up a dark mirror to our face, a reflection of the damage we’ve inflicted upon ourselves and the Earth we call home.

The opener „Remedy“ catches you from the beginning and sets a high level in your expectations for the other songs. Of course you won’t get disappointed from the following tracks. Every song has it’s own unique style, perfectly mixed and mastered by Pasi Löfgren. The very well experienced musicians delivered a debut album which sounds like they worked together for many years. My first favorite song is „Virus“, straight going forward in the beginning, then changing into Blackmetal style and ending straight forward again. Singer Tero does an outstanding awesome job on this track.
Second favorite is „Last Page“, which was the first single and catched me from the very beginning. All musicians have a dominating part in this song, a unique composition.

The only thing I could complain about is that the album includes only 6 songs which is definitely a short pleasure. But it doesn’t get boring to go on repeat and listen to it again. Caution, there’s a high risk of addiction! 😉Another point to give the longplayer the status „album of the year“!
