Deine musikalischen Wurzeln. Wann hast du angefangen Musik zu hören und wann hast du dich entschieden, Musiker zu werden?
Grunge war meine erste Musik-Richtung und ich höre auch heute noch Pearl Jam und Alice in Chains. Später waren Creed, Alter Bridge, Pantera, Helloween und andere Metal Bands meine Favoriten. Mit 14 Jahren habe ich angefangen Gitarre zu spielen und ein Jahr später meine erste Band gegründet. Damals habe ich Bassgitarre gespielt und bin einige Jahre dabeigeblieben. Mit 25 habe ich mich entschieden, richtig Musik zu machen. Ich trat der Band Outshine aus Göteborg bei, ein großer Schritt vorwärts in meiner musikalischen Karriere. Wir spielten 2 US Touren und waren einmal als Support mit Paradise Lost unterwegs.
Wer hatte die Idee für den Bandnamen und hat er eine bestimmte Bedeutung?
Robin und ich hatten die Idee dafür. Unser erster Bandname, RMT, war nicht mehr passend. Wir wollen nicht verraten was der Bandname S.O.R.M bedeutet, es bleibt deiner Fantasie überlassen.
Wer sind eure musikalischen Idole? Mit wem würdet ihr gerne einen Song aufnehmen oder auf Tour gehen?
Meine Vorbilder sind Zakk Wylde und Blackie Lawless. Ich würde gerne mit Zakk Wylde zusammenarbeiten und mit seiner Band Black Lable Society auf Tour gehen.
Johan (Bass) hat seine Idole in der Sleeze Rock Szene mit Nikki Sixx und Mötley Crue. Haha
Robin’s (Drums) großes Vorbild ist Travis Parker und die Punk Rock Szene. Robin ist der einzige Schlagzeuger, der einen 10 min. Song in 3 Minuten spielen kann. haha
Eure EP „Hellraiser“ mit drei Songs sowie dem Cover „House Of The Rising Sun“ wurde am 04.12.2020 veröffentlicht. Was war der Grund die eigenen Songs (Erst-Release 2018) nochmals neu zu veröffentlichen? Wurden die Songs dafür neu eingespielt?
„Hellraiser“ haben wir 2018 in Eigenregie veröffentlicht. Wir fanden es eine gute Idee, jetzt mit unserem Label Noble Demon die Songs neu vorzustellen. Unser damaliger Bassist verließ die Band, als wir den Vertrag mit unserem Management (EMG) unterzeichneten. Mit Johan am Bass haben unsere Songs ein neues Level erreicht und wir entschieden uns die EP neu aufzunehmen.
Wie seid ihr auf die Idee gekommen „House Of The Rising Sun“ zu covern? Ihr habt das übrigens top erledigt!
Vielen Dank. Einer unserer Tourmanager spielt Piano. Er hat ein Video an unseren Freund Göran gesandt, in dem er den Song spielte. Göran und ich wiederum haben einen Freund (Mike Kerr) in den Staaten, der in der Band First Bourne Gitarre spielt. Göran hatte die Idee, diesen Song zusammen mit Mike zu covern. In der ersten Nacht, in der wir im Studio waren, haben wir Songs von Type O Negative, eine meiner heutigen Lieblingsbands, gehört. Das brachte mich auf die Idee, „House Of The Rising Sun“ im Type O Negative Stil aufzunehmen.
Seid ihr alle am Songschreiben beteiligt und wie läuft das ab bei S.O.R.M?
In irgendeiner Weise sind wir alle involviert, aber es beginnt immer damit, dass ich eine Idee liefere und Johan und Robin dann ihren Part sprich Bass und Schlagzeug dazu beitragen.
Lass uns über meinen persönlichen Favoriten „Brick By Brick“ reden. Die meisten Musiker schreiben ihre Texte über Themen, die sie selbst oder jemand im engen Freundeskreis erlebt haben. Welche Bedeutung hat der Song für dich?
Brick By Brick ist ein Song über eine dunkle Zeit in meinem Leben. Ich war total am Boden und sah mein Leben auseinanderfallen Stein für Stein. So sehr ich versucht habe, aus diesem Loch herauszukommen, ich sank immer tiefer in diese Qual. Wenn nicht für die Musik, ich wäre nicht mehr am Leben.
Hast du noch andere Interessen neben der Musik?
Mein Job und für meine Kinder zu sorgen lassen mir keine Zeit für andere Dinge. Aber ich versuche NHL Hockey zu folgen und ich koche sehr gerne.
Was sind eure Pläne für nächstes Jahr? Neue Songs, ein Album, vielleicht eine Tour?
Unsere Pläne für 2021 sind unser erstes Album zu veröffentlichen und wenn es die Situation wieder zulässt, auf Tour gehen zu können. Und natürlich neue Musik zu schreiben.

Interview with Micke Holm from S.O.R.M
Your musical roots. When did you get in touch with music and when was the moment you decided to become a musician?
My musical roots come from grunge. I still listen to Pearl Jam and Alice in chains. When i got older one of my favorit bands were Creed, Alter Bridge, Pantera, Helloween and some other metal bands. I started playing guitar when i was 14 years old and started my first band at age 15. Back then i played the bass. I was a bassplayer for many years. At age 25 i decided to try and make it in music. I joined a band from Gothenburg (Outshine) which was a step up for me in my musical career. We did 2 US tours and one support tour with Paradise Lost.
Who had the idea for the bandname and what is the meaning of your bandname?
Me and Robin came up with the band name. Our first name we had, RMT, wasn`t a good one. We don’t want to say what S.O.R.M stands for, it‘s up to your imagination.
Who are your musical idols? With whom would you love to collaborate for a song or perhaps going on tour?
For me is`s Zakk Wylde and Blackie Lawless and I would like to collaborate with Zakk Wylde and go on tour with Black Lable Society.
For Johan (bass) it`s Nikki Sixx and Mötley Crue and some other crapie Sleeze rock hahaha.
For Robin (drums) it`s Travis Parker and the punk rock scene. Robin is the only drummer who can turn a 10 min song in to 3 min song haha J.
Your EP Hellraiser with 3 own songs and the Cover „House of the rising sun“ is out since 4th of december. What was the reason for re-releasing your own ones? Have you done some song edits on them for the re-release?
We released Hellraiser on our own the first time, Now when we got signed we thought it was a good idea to re-release it together with Noble Demon. Our bassplayer quit when we signed with our management (EMG). So when Johan took over the bass the songs really gained a whole new level so we decided to re-record the whole EP.
Why did you decide to cover „House Of The Rising Sun“? By the way, you did an amazing job!
Thanks. One of our road manager plays the piano. He sent a clip of playing the song on his piano to a friend (Göran) of SORM. Göran and I have a friend (Mike Kerr) in US who playes guitar in FirstBourne. Göran came up with the idea to do a cover of the song together with Mike Kerr. The first night when we hit the studio we sat and listened to Type O Negative which is one of my favorite bands nowadays, and right there I came up with the idea to do a Type O Negative version of „House Of The Rising Sun“.
Are you all involved in the songwriting and how does it work in S.O.R.M?
In some way we all are but it always starts with me coming up with an idea and then Johan and Robin come up with ideas for bass and drums.
Let us talk about my favorite song Brick by Brick. The most musicians write their lyrics out of something they experienced by themselves or someone in their close circle of friends. Which meaning does this song have for you?
Brick by brick is about a dark time in my life where i was feeling down and saw my life fall brick by brick and felt that no matter how hard I tried to come out of it, I just fall deeper in agony. If it wasn‘t for music I wouldn‘t still be alive.
Do you have other interests beside making music?
I don`t have time to do anything else beside taking care of my kids and work. But I try to follow NHL Hockey and I really enjoy cooking.
What are your plans for next year? New songs, an album, perhaps going on tour?
Plans for 2021 are to release our first full length album and if in a world free from corona we hope to tour. And write some more music.
