Wann wurde dir bewusst, dass du Musiker werden möchtest?
Es hört sich wahrscheinlich lustig an, aber ich war ein kleines Kind. Ich erinnere mich, ich war in der Schule, meine Mutter war dort Lehrerin, und während einer Pause wünschten sich die anderen Kinder, dass Celine Dion‘s „My heart will go on“ gespielt wird, um mitzusingen. Ich erinnere mich, dass es schrecklich klang, haha. Und dann habe ich es auch versucht und es klang wie – hm interessant. Es hörte sich nicht schlecht an. Dann sang ich das Lied vor allen anderen und in diesem Moment traf mich die Erkenntnis, das ist es was ich für den Rest meines Lebens tun will. Den ersten Applaus, den ich erlebte – dieses Gefühl ist besser als jede andere Droge.
Welche Bands oder Musiker beeinflussten dich am meisten? Hast du einen Favoriten und wer ist es?
Es ist definitiv Björk, sie ist eine große Inspiration für mich, alles was sie tut ist episch. Ich bin mehr als einmal zu einem ihrer Konzerte gereist, und ich würde es jederzeit wieder tun. Sie ist diejenige, die mich gelehrt hat, wahre Songtexte zu schreiben. Amy Lee von Evanescence ist wirklich eine Heldin. Ich kann es spüren, wenn ein Künstler viel durchlebt hat und ich kann diese Erfahrungen in ihrer Stimme heraushören. Marilyn Manson hat ebenfalls einen großen Einfluss auf meine Musik und generell in meinem Leben. Meine Meinung ist, seine Musik versucht die Leute aufzuwecken, er ist ein wirklich revolutionärer Musiker. Sein letztes Album höre ich ständig. Das ist die Art von Musik, zu der ich mich in der Zukunft hin entwickeln möchte. Ich liebe auch Portishead, Ludovico Einaudi, Christina Aguilera, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin und von den neueren Bands Bring Me The Horizon.
Was inspiriert dich am stärksten beim Schreiben der Songtexte?
Das Schreiben der Texte ist eine Offenbarung meiner Seele. Manchmal muss ich den Songtext etwas ändern, weil er zu persönlich wird, und ich nicht will, dass jeder weiß, was ich erlebt habe. Aber ich bin nicht der Typ, der über Quantenphysik schreibt, haha. Ich denke es ist wichtiger sich selbst treu zu bleiben und über die Dinge des Lebens zu schreiben, die jeder versteht wie Trennung, Stress, Ängste, Leben … Liebe
Kannst du uns deinen Arbeitsablauf bei der Songkomposition beschreiben?
Als erstes setze ich mich an mein Piano und summe die Melodie in der höchsten Tonlage, die ich singen kann. Dann setze ich den Song einen halben Ton tiefer, um ihn auch live singen zu können. Wenn ich mit der Melodie fertig bin, denke ich über die Musikinstrumente nach. Ich stelle mir die Gitarrenriffe über die Melodie vor und nehme sie mit meinem Handy auf. Das bedeutet, ich „schreibe“ die Gitarrenriffe mit meinem Mund. Dann beginne ich darüber nachzudenken, welches Schlagzeug dazu passt, und zuletzt komponiere ich die Streicherarrangements. Und voila, das Lied ist fertig.
Was ist deine liebste Beschäftigung als Musiker, ausgenommen natürlich auf der Bühne zu stehen?
Derzeit ist es mein liebster Moment, wenn ein Album fertig produziert ist und ich zuhause mit einem Glas Wein, einem perfekten Headset, die Musik vor allen anderen genießen kann. Die Zeit im Studio kann wunderbar sein, aber das Warten auf die Fertigstellung des Albums ist mental und physisch anstrengend.
Wie hast du dich bei der Zusammenarbeit mit Mark Jansen (EPICA) und John LeCompt (We Are The Fallen ex Evanescence) bei deinem ersten Album Beautiful Sickness gefühlt? Würdest du das in der Zukunft gerne wieder tun und welcher Künstler wäre dein Favorit dafür?
Ich fühlte mich äußerst geehrt und privilegiert, dass ich mit diesen Künstlern zusammenarbeiten durfte. Dafür bin ich ihnen sehr dankbar, dass sie an meine Musik glauben. Am meisten genossen habe ich aber die Zusammenarbeit mit Christianna von Elysion in unserem Duett in „Hide and Sick“. Sie ist einer meiner besten Freunde und eine der talentiertesten Sängerinnen, die ich je gehört habe. Mein Traum wäre es, einen Song mit Björk aufzunehmen.
Welche anderen Interessen außerhalb der Musik hast du?
Wie die meisten Menschen liebe ich es Filme zu sehen. Wenn es die Zeit zulässt, lese ich Bücher, Künstler Biografien und was wir leider derzeit nicht tun können ist, Konzerte von meinen Lieblingskünstlern besuchen.
Wie sehen deine Pläne für die Zukunft aus?
Ich habe bereits mit dem Schreiben an neuen Songs für ein neues Album begonnen. Es wird nicht als ganzes Album veröffentlicht. Ich werde die Songs einzeln nacheinander publizieren und am Ende wird es ein ganzes Album sein. Etwas was ich jetzt schon darüber sagen kann ist, dass die neuen Songs anders sein werden.

When did you know that you want to become a musician?
It will propably sound funny, but I was a small kid, I remember I was at school where my mother was teaching, and during a break, the other kids would play Celine Dion’s My heart Will Go on, and sing. And I remember they sang it awfully. Hehe, and then I tried to sing it as well and I was like. Hmm interesting, it wasn’t sounding bad at all. Then I sang it in front of everyone and then it was the moment that hit me. This is what I wanted to do for the rest of my life.The first round of applause I experienced. This feeling is better than any drug.
Which bands or musicians influenced you the most? Do you have a favorite one and who is it?
I will definitely say Björk, she is a HUGE Inspiration for me, everything she does is just epic. I traveled to see her live more than once, and I would do that anytime again. She’s the one who taught me to write honest lyrics. Amy Lee from Evanescence is definitely a hero. I can tell when an artist has been through a LOT and I can identify those experiences through her voice. Marilyn Manson has always been a huge influence on my music and my life in general. I don’t wanna feel like a sheep , his music is trying to awake people, he is a truly revolutionary musician. And I can’t stop listening to his latest record. This is the kind of music I want to be singing later on. I would totally gravitate towards this genre in the future. I also love Portishead , Ludovico Einaudi ,Christina Aguilera, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin and from the newer band’s, I Love Bring Me The Horizon.
What inspires you the most on writing your lyrics?
Writing lyrics is the only place that I cannot hide. Sometimes I even have to change my own lyrics because they become too obvious, and I don’t want everyone to know what I’ve been through. Hehehe, but I’m not the type of guy that is writing about quantum physics, I think it’s more important to be true to yourself and write about topics that any of us could relate to, break ups, pressure, fears, life…love…
Can you describe the workflow for your song composition?
The first thing I do is go to my piano and start humming the melody at the highest pitch I’m able to sing, then I transpose the song one semitone lower, so that I will be able to sing it live, when I finish with the melodies, I’m starting to think about the orchestration around it, I imagine guitar riffs all over the melodies, and then I record the melodies on my cell phone, that means that I am writing the guitar riffs with my mouth initially. Hahaha, then I’m starting to think what type of drums would fit, and then I compose the string arrangements, and voila, I have a song.
What do you love the most about being a musician, except performing on stage for sure?
Actually my favorite moment is when every album is created and finished, and I’m home with a glass of wine, a perfect set of headphones, enjoying the music before anyone else. Studio time can be awesome, but the whole waiting for the album to be finished is mentally and physically exhausting.
How did you feel about the cooperation with Mark Jansen and John LeCompt on your first album Beautiful Sickness? Would you love to do that again in the future and who would be your favorite one?
I feel extremely honored and privileged to be able to collaborate with such artists, I feel thankful for fact that they believed in my music, but my favorite collaboration so far though, would be the one with „Christianna“ from „Elysion“ , on our duet called „Hide and Sick“. She’s one of my best friends, and one of the most talented singers I’ve ever heard. My dream would be doing a song with Björk.
What other interests outside the music do you have?
Like every normal person out there I love watching movies, whenever I have free time I read books, reading artists biographies, and something we can’t do nowadays, attend concerts of my favorite artists.
What are your plans for the future?
I have already started writing songs for a new album, which will not be released as a full album, I will release one song at a time, and in the end we will have a new album. One thing I can tell for sure is that the new music will be different.
