When did you decide to become a musician? You play cello so did you get a classical music education?
I never really decided to be a musician or I don’t remember haha … I started to play music with my dad on stage when I was 5 or 6 years old haha so…the best answer is “i decided to continue to be a musician.” I had a classical education, yes but only on guitar, I learned cello alone. The same way I learned english haha!
Have you been in other bands before you joined Chaoseum? How did you get in touch with them?
Yes I played in a lot of bands! I’m even still playing with other bands but as a guitarist. I played with Loïc in another band a few years ago and we kept in touch all the time. And in 2019 he asked me to become the singer in Chaoseum.
Chaoseum often gets compared with Korn. Are they an inspiration for you and which other musicians influenced you in the past respectively do it nowadays?
Yeah I saw that! Haha that means we help a style to stay alive, I don’t think it’s a bad thing don’t ya? Of course they are an influence like many other nu metal bands like Slipknot, Deftones or Snot… We grew up with that music and I listen to a lot of Massive Attack and old The Cure albums.
I discovered you on Youtube and before watching the video your band name got my attention. Who came up with that name and which meaning has it for you?
I wasn’t there when Val, Loïc and Greg decided to take that name, they wanted to find something apocalyptic like a horror movie haha but they had a good idea, it defines us well, you can hear it on our music, one song sounds Korny and another like Trivium and another one like Alice in Chains… We don’t stay in the same style all the time. For me? Chaos is Order in the brain of a madman like me ????
Not only that you totally got me with your song „Smile Again“, your make-up reminds me on Joker (The Dark Knight) and of course it fits perfectly to the song. Is there a deeper meaning behind your „masks“ or is it just for fun?
The Joker… haha thank you so much! But I have to admit that my dream is still to be Batman haha
No it’s not for fun, many many people live with that “mask” for hiding sadness, anger, loneliness, depression… All the weaknesses. I’m one of them as everyone. Some people use violence or a big fake sense of humor, in my case it’s using my smile. It seems to irritate some people, I love it.
Are you all involved in songwriting and how is it working? Where do you get your inspiration for the song lyrics from?
Yeah everybody has an important role in the band for the composition. We make the instrumental part first and then the vocals. I try to catch what I feel when I’m listening to the track and so I find the subject.
Your album „Second Life“ came out 25.09.2020 and due to the pandemic you weren’t able to go on tour to promote it. What is your opinion on doing livestreams and will you perhaps do one?
Actually we thought this album would come out later… But in march 2020 we were locked down so we had more time to finish this album and record it quickly. And hopefully we were able to promote it online, even if we prefer going on stage, with our fans in front of us. Live Streams are a good alternative for the bands and for their fans or for people who want to discover new bands. Yeah we will do somes ????
You also play amazing acoustic versions of your songs like „Into My Split“. Would you love to do an acoustic tour too?
Of course! I love acoustic music, I’m just afraid to miss the loud sounds and make headbangs on stage haha!
What was your most memorable experience with Chaoseum so far?
I have so many… But the funniest was probably after a show in Switzerland. We were in a hotel and the decoration was so pretty so I decided to visit it… but I was completely naked.
Besides music do you have other interests/hobbies?
I’m a little bit nerdy so I play video games and watch a lot of horror movies.
What are your next plans? Maybe an acoustic album?
The acoustic album is already ready and will be available very soon ????

Interview mit CK Smile von Chaoseum
Wann hast du dich entschlossen Musiker zu werden? Du spielst auch Cello, hast du eine klassische Musikausbildung?
Ich habe mich nie wirklich entschlossen Musiker zu werden oder ich kann mich nicht mehr daran erinnern haha … Mit 5 oder 6 Jahren habe ich angefangen zusammen mit meinem Vater auf der Bühne Musik zu machen … die beste Antwort ist „Ich habe beschlossen, Musiker zu bleiben“. Ich hatte eine klassische Ausbildung, aber nur auf der Gitarre. Das Cello spielen habe ich mir selbst beigebracht. Genauso wie Englisch zu lernen, haha!
Hast du vor Chaoseum in anderen Bands gespielt? Wie hast du die anderen Jungs kennengelernt?
Ja, ich habe schon in einigen Bands gespielt! Das tue ich immer noch, aber als Gitarrist. Ich habe mit Loïc zusammen in einer anderen Band gespielt und wir blieben in ständigem Kontakt und 2019 fragte er mich, ob ich bei Chaoseum als Sänger einsteigen möchte.
Chaoseum wird oft mit Korn verglichen. Ist diese Band eine Inspiration für euch und welche anderen Musiker haben euch beeinflusst bzw. beeinflussen euch immer noch?
Yeah, ich habe es mitbekommen! Haha, das heißt wir helfen diesen Musikstil am Leben zu erhalten. Ich glaube nicht, dass es schlecht ist, was meinst du? Natürlich haben sie Einfluss auf uns wie viele andere Nu Metal Bands wie Slipknot, Deftones oder Snot … Wir sind mit dieser Musik aufgewachsen und hören eine Menge an Massive Attack und die alten The Cure Alben.

Chaos ist die Ordnung im Gedächtnis eines Verrückten wie mir ????
Nicht nur, dass mich euer Song „Smile Again“ total gefangen hat, dein Make-Up erinnert mich an Joker (The Dark Knight) und natürlich passt es perfekt zu diesem Song. Gibt es eine tiefere Bedeutung für diese „Masken“ oder ist es einfach nur Spaß?
Der Joker … haha vielen Dank! Aber ich muss zugeben, dass mein Traum immer noch ist, Batman zu sein haha
Nein, es ist nicht nur zum Spaß, sehr viele Menschen leben mit dieser „Maske“ um Traurigkeit, Wut, Einsamkeit, Depressionen dahinter zu verbergen… alle diese Schwächen. Ich bin einer von ihnen wie jeder andere. Einige Menschen benutzen Gewalttätigkeit oder eine Menge falschen Sinn für Humor dafür, in meinem Fall ist es das Lächeln. Es scheint einige Leute zu irritieren. Ich liebe das.
Schreibt ihr alle zusammen an Songs und wie macht ihr das? Woher bekommst du die Inspiration für die Songtexte?
Yeah jeder in der Band spielt eine wichtige Rolle bei der Komposition. Wir arbeiten zuerst an der Melodie und dann am Text. Ich versuche das was ich fühle, wenn ich die Melodie höre, einzufangen und in Worte zu fassen.
Euer Album „Second Life“ wurde am 25.09.2020 veröffentlicht und aufgrund der Pandemie konntet ihr natürlich nicht auf Tour gehen, um es zu bewerben. Wie ist deine Meinung zu Live Streams und werdet ihr eventuell auch so etwas tun?
Wir dachten eigentlich, dass das Album erst später erscheinen würde .. aber als im März 2020 der Lockdown erfolgte, hatten wir mehr Zeit für die Fertigstellung des Albums und die Songaufnahmen konnten schneller erledigt werden. Wir konnten es dann online bewerben, obwohl wir natürlich viel lieber auf der Bühne stehen würden, zusammen mit unseren Fans vor uns. Live Streams sind eine gute Alternative für die Bands und die Fans und auch für Leute die neue Bands entdecken wollen. Yeah wir werden welche spielen. ????
Ihr spielt auch Akustikversionen eurer Songs wie „Into My Split“. Würdet ihr auch gerne auf eine Akustiktour gehen?
Natürlich, ich liebe Akustik Musik. Ich habe nur Angst davor, dass ich die lauten Sounds vermissen könnte und womöglich auf der Bühne Headbangen würde haha!
Was war dein denkwürdigstes Erlebnis mit Chaoseum bis jetzt?
Ich habe so viele … aber das Lustigste hatte ich nach einer Show in der Schweiz. Wir waren in einem Hotel und die Dekoration war so wunderschön, dass ich mich entschied, das alles anzusehen … aber ich vergaß, dass ich komplett nackt war.
Hast du neben der Musik noch andere Interessen oder Hobbies?
Ich bin etwas nerdy und spiele gerne Videospiele und schaue viele Horrorfilme.
Was sind eure nächsten Pläne. Eventuell ein Akustik Album?
Das Akustikalbum ist bereits fertig und wird bald erhältlich sein. ????
