There’s not so much to find about you on social media. So tell me something about your band. How did you all meet up?
Well Ero and Walter already knew each other well before St. Aurora. I had met Ero a couple of times as he was friends with my cousin. Actually I think we had only once had a legit conversation and it was about our similar enthusiasm towards wide brim hats. Then one day he approached me on instagram saying that he’d heard me sing on a couple of videos and would like to ask if I was up for a new project and I was immediately interested when he told details about the idea. After a few months of searching for guitarists Ero ended up coming to meet my friends from Salo on our summerhouse. My best friend Oscar was there and as the evening went on and he was rambling the guitar, Ero looked at me actually like he was mad at me and went „Dude, why the fuck is he not playing in our band?“ And soon after that he was. Then we had a couple of auditions for the second guitar and got in touch with Sami who I think Ero actually knew from before atleast a little bit. He rocked us with his downpicking and charismatics and thus St. Aurora was complete.
Do you all have a musical history like Ero who played bass in Santa Cruz?
Yeah I guess we do! We all have played in several bands and still do at the moment. Me and Oscar play in an Alternative metal band called Infectionist, Walter plays in another alternative metal band called Blame me! and Selei plays in the band of Johanna Von Hertzen. Ero and Walter actually used to play together in a band called Hollow Souls.
Is there a story behind your bandname St. Aurora?
There is! I won’t get into it that much, because it’s more of a spiritual meaning and both Ero and Walter have deep connections with the name as they came up with it together. But what I will say, is that there is a psychiatric hospital in Helsinki that is called Aurora and it would be false to say that place wasn’t an inspiration for the name.

Are you all involved in the songwriting process and how is it working?
Yes. These first few songs are basically written by Ero and then we finished them together. The foundation for each song was already made, but they molded up to become our songs when everyone got to give in their thoughts, ideas and emotions. We’ve been talking about the future a lot and have decided to mainly write everything together from start to finish.
When I watched your video for your first single „Falling (Just Another Way to Fly) my first thought was you must be a HIM fan. Which bands are your main influences?
Hahah, I sure as hell have heard that one before. I don’t blame you, the beanie and the eyeliner do make a resemblance. To be completely honest, I’ve never actually been a huge fan of HIM. I like a few of their songs a lot and I probably wouldn’t switch the station when Wings of A Butterfly started playing. Still I wouldn’t call myself a HIM fan. I definetly like his style and we happen to like to dress similarly but that’s about it. My all time favorite bands are Slipknot and Avenged Sevenfold so I’m a metal guy to the bone. Also pop-punk stuff like Blink-182 and Sum 41 are better than life itself. As for my main influences considering my singing and songwriting I would say they come from rather fresh bands like Palaye Royale, Set It Off and Nothing More.
You had the amazingly talented Vin Valentino on board for your video. How was it to work with him? Was it difficult to manage it in this ongoing pandemic?
Vin is a hell of a guy! He really out did himself with the music video. I’d never met him before but felt really comfortable with working with him right away. It’s a big deal, since it would be pretty easy to see from the final product if someone was not feeling comfortable in their skin. He’s a cool dude and I’m sure we’ll be working together in the future. I think the pandemic didn’t slow us down one bit. We had such a small group there as we had no actual crew with us (Vin did EVERYTHING by himself) so we just blasted it in that hangar looking garage hall and had the time of our lives.
Your next single will be released in april. Can you already tell us something about it?
The next single is gonna get a bit messy, I’ll tell you that. So if Falling’s has got some easy listening pop-rock elements, the next song is bringing some of the metal in us into the mix. It’ll have you screaming „f*ck you“ to the ones who want to stop people from walking their own path. The lyrics are greatly influenced by my dearest friends that I’ve known from middle school and what makes us who we are.
What are your plans for the year 2021? An EP, perhaps playing concerts if it’s possible?
Yeah absolutely! We’ve already started working on new stuff and I’m pretty excited about the stuff that’s coming out. I look forward to coming up on stage with these lunatics but I wanna be sure the situation in the world is well before we rush onto the stage. So we got a lot of time to work on new stuff, practice on perfecting the old ones and get to know each other better. It’s gonna be a hell of a year, believe me.
Which bands would you love to support?
I think we’ve been talking about a couple of bands like Nothing But Thieves and My Chemical Romance, and those would be like out of this world. One dream come through would be warming up the stage for Palaye Royale. It’s always a good thing to have goals to reach for and I bet one of these days we’ll be creating new ones.
Do you want to tell something else to your fans?
I’m honestly so thrilled about this whole situation and overwhelmingly thankful for all the feedback we’ve gotten for Falling and can’t wait for you guys to hear what’s coming up. I sincerely hope you guys put your stereos way up high and blast out Falling today and have an awesome day, week and month! Be careless and be bored, for nothing is ever gonna get created if we don’t.

Interview mit Nile von Saint Aurora
Es gibt nicht so viel über euch zu finden auf den sozialen Medien. Also erzähl mir etwas über eure Band. Wie habt ihr euch kennengelernt?
Nun Ero und Walter kannten sich von früher her schon gut. Ich hatte Ero ein paarmal getroffen, weil er mit meinem Cousin befreundet ist. Ich glaube wir hatten eine einzige bedeutsame Unterhaltung und es ging um unsere gemeinsame Vorliebe für Hüte mit breiter Krempe. Eines Tages kontaktierte er mich auf Instagram und sagte, er hätte mich auf einigen Videos singen gehört und fragte mich, ob ich nicht Lust hätte bei einem neuen Projekt dabei zu sein. Ich war sofort interessiert, nachdem er mir einige Details darüber erzählte. Nach einigen Monaten der Suche nach Gitarristen kam Ero zu meinen Freunden in unser Sommerhaus. Mein bester Freund Oscar war hier und im Laufe des Abends begann er Gitarre zu spielen. Ero schaute mich an als sei er sauer auf mich und meinte „Kumpel, warum zum Teufel spielt er nicht in unserer Band?“ Und so war er kurz darauf mit an Bord. Dann hatten wir einige Vorstellungstermine für die zweite Gitarre und lernten Sami kennen, den Ero wohl aus früheren Zeiten etwas kannte. Er überzeugte uns mit seinen Gitarrenkünsten und seiner Ausstrahlung und so war St. Aurora geboren.
Habt ihr alle eine musikalische Vergangenheit wie Ero, der in der Band Santa Cruz Bass gespielt hat?
Ja, so ist es. Wir alle haben in verschiedenen Bands gespielt und tun das auch immer noch. Oscar und ich sind in der Alternative Metal Band Infectionist, Walter spielt in einer anderen Alternative Metal Band, die sich Blame me! nennt, und Sami spielt in Johanna Von Hertzen. Ero und Walter haben zusammen in der Band Hollow Souls gespielt.
Gibt es eine Geschichte zu eurem Bandnamen St. Aurora?
Oh ja! Ich will nicht zu sehr ins Detail gehen, weil es mehr eine spirituelle Bedeutung hat und beide, Ero und Walter, haben tiefe eine Verbindung zu dem Namen, als sie ihn gemeinsam gefunden haben. Aber was ich sagen will, es gibt ein psychiatrisches Hospital in Helsinki mit dem Namen Aurora und es wäre falsch zu sagen, dass dieser Platz keine Inspiration für den Namen gespielt wäre.
Schreibt ihr alle an euren Songs wie läuft das ab?
Ja. Die ersten Songs wurden von Ero geschrieben und wir haben sie zusammen fertig gestellt. Die Grundlage für alle Songs war schon vorhanden, aber sie wurden durch unsere gemeinsamen Gedanken, Ideen und Emotionen zu unseren Songs geformt. Wir haben viel über die Zukunft gesprochen und haben beschlossen, generell von Anfang bis Ende alles gemeinsam zu schreiben.
Als ich euer Video zu dem ersten Song „Falling (Just Another Way to Fly) gesehen habe, war mein erster Gedanke, du must ein HIM Fan sein. Welche Bands beeinflussen euch am meisten?

Ich mag seinen Style und wir kleiden uns ähnlich, aber das ist auch alles. Meine All-time-favorite Bands sind Slipknot und Avenged Sevenfold. Ich bin von Grund auf ein Metal Fan. Auch Pop-Punk wie Blink-182 und Sum 41 finde ich großartig. Die größten Einflüsse in meinen Gesang und das Songschreiben haben aktuelle Bands wie Palaye Royale, Set It Off und Nothing More.
Ihr hattet den unglaublich talentierten Vin Valentino (Framenoir Productions) für euer Video an Bord. Wie war die Arbeit mit ihm? War die Produktion schwierig in der andauernden Pandemie?
Vin ist ein großartiger Kerl. Er verausgabte sich wirklich mit dem Video. Ich hatte ihn vorher nicht gekannt, aber ich fühlte mich sehr gut in der Zusammenarbeit mit ihm. Es ist eine großartige Sache, denn es würde doch im Video sehr schnell erkennbar sein, wenn man sich nicht wohl fühlt in seiner Haut. Er ist ein cooler Kumpel und ich bin mir sicher, dass wir in der Zukunft wieder zusammenarbeiten werden. Die Pandemie hat uns nicht beeinträchtigt. Wir waren nur eine kleine Gruppe ohne Crew (Vin hat alles alleine organisiert), so konnten wir uns in der Garage, die wie ein Hangar aussah, voll auf unsere Arbeit stürzen und hatten die Zeit unseres Lebens.
Eure nächste Single wird im April veröffentlicht. Kannst du uns schon etwas drüber erzählen?
Die nächste Single wird etwas messy, ich erzähle es dir. Falling hatte diese leichten Pop-Rock Elemente, der nächste Song wird einige unserer Metal-Einflüsse beinhalten. Er wird euch dazu bringen den Leuten „f*ck you“ ins Gesicht zu schreien, die euch aufhalten wollen, euren Weg zu gehen. Die Lyriks sind sehr von meinen engsten Schulfreunden beeinflusst, die uns zu dem gemacht haben, was wir heute sind.
Was sind eure Pläne für dieses Jahr? Eine EP, vielleicht auch Konzerte spielen, falls es wieder möglich ist?
Ja natürlich! Wir haben schon angefangen an neuen Songs zu arbeiten und ich bin schon sehr aufgeregt über alles was noch kommen wird. Ich hoffe natürlich auch, dass ich mit den „Wahnsinnigen“ dann live spielen kann, aber ich möchte natürlich, dass die allgemeine Situation in der Welt sicher ist, bevor wir die Bühne entern. So haben wir jetzt eine Menge Zeit an Neuem zu arbeiten, zu üben und die alten Songs zu perfektionieren und nicht zuletzt uns noch besser kennenzulernen. Es wird ein großartiges Jahr werden, glaub mir!
Mit welchen Bands würdet ihr gerne die Bühne teilen?
Wir haben glaub ich darüber gesprochen, dass es so Bands wie Nothing But Thieves und My Chemical Romance wären, die „Unerreichbaren“. Ein Traum würde wahr werden, wenn wir die Bühne für Palaye Royale aufwärmen könnten. Es ist immer gut, sich Ziele zu setzen auf die man hinarbeiten kann und es werden noch weitere folgen. Daran glaube ich ganz fest.
Möchtest du euren Fans noch etwas mitteilen?
Ich bin ehrlich so überwältigt von allem und wahnsinnig dankbar über alle Reaktionen, die wir bisher für „Falling“ erhalten haben. Ich kann es nicht erwarten eure Meinung, über alles was von uns noch kommen wird, zu hören. Ich hoffe sehr, ihr alle dreht eure Anlagen auf, hört Falling und habt einen tollen Tag, eine großartige Woche und einen wunderbaren Monat!
