What I could find out in short time is that you are an experienced musician. You play or played in different bands also as professional musician and now you started your soloproject with different musicians. But tell us more about your musical career.
When I was 10 years old I started playing guitar. Heavy Metal was my mission! Iron Maiden and W.A.S.P. were my absolute favorite bands and I had posters on all the walls in my bedroom. I started playing in different bands and I was the one who wrote songs and kept the bands running. When I was 16, I played in the band Elliott who played Symphony Rock with influences like Marillion. This style of music would lead me further into styles like Jazz and Fusion. At this time I practiced guitar 4-5 hours a day. I took lessons from different guitarists that played Jazz. Then I started studying Jazz, Pop and Rock for several years and played at various Jazz clubs etc. 2007 I formed the band Tales of Eden influenced by Nightwish and recorded an album. 2015 I formed the band Circle of Conspiracy influenced by In Flames. Circle of Conspiracy was in the finals in Sweden at the contest Wacken Metal Battle. Peter Ivers from In Flames was one of the judges who made it possible to be in the finals in Sweden.
After studies I started as an electric guitar teacher at N3 in Trollhättan. I started TMI Trollhättan Music Institute influenced by MI (Music Institute) in Los Angeles. My students play Metal, Black Metal, Trash Metal, Jazz, Fusion, Pop, Blues etc. (One bands with students is now nominated for best Metal att P3 guld. One of the other five bands that’s nominated is Amaranthe.)
During this time I started freelance as an electric guitarist and played with Sweden’s leading artists at concerts, tours, events, tv and big arenas etc and have done this for 20 years.
The bands I now play with is Emma Varg (Metal). 2017 we opened up as the first band at Sweden Rock. The other band members in Emma Varg were earlier playing in the band
Lambretta which had hits like Bimbo and Creep and touring the world. Iron Trooper (a Swedish Tribute to Iron Maiden). Virginia And Skybenders (Blues). MBBand (Band to different artists), Hitmaskinen (Showband), I also play with various artists and symphony orchestras.
You are playing jazz, pop, rock, metal, very versatile I have to say. Which musicians/bands had the biggest influences on you?
Iron Maiden, W.A.S.P. Candlemass, Avantasia, Helloween, Nightwish, Queenstryche, Arjen Lucassen (Star One). Within Temptation, Steve Vai, Steve Lukather, Scott Henderson, Frank Gambale, John Norum, Kee Marcello.
Mirrors with Göran Edman as singer, and World of Madness with Isak Stenvall are AOR/hardrock songs and Seven Seas with Sergio Faga from Brazil is also more hardrock related. The latest single Bringer Of Pain with Micke Holm on vocals and Robin Wernebratt on drums (both are members of the swedish heavy metal band SORM) is a 100 % heavy metal song. You are currently working on a new song again with Micke as vocalist. So can I expect another heavy metal song? According to which criteria do you choose guest musicians?
4 years ago I started my studio The Sand Studio. After being influenced by Arjen Lucassen’s Star One where he uses different singers and musicians, I wanted to start my own project Sandström. I record, produce and mix my songs. My favorite mix engineers are Jens Bogren and Jacob Hansen.
On March 26, I will release the song Stronger with the singer Emil Kyrk. A Heavy Metal song. On April 30, I release the song I Will Fall with Micke Holm on vocals and Robin Wernebratt on drums. The song is very influenced by W.A.S.P. Micke has a Blackie Lawless touch in his voice that I like. From now on I will be releasing one single a month, all metal songs in different styles. A doom metal song is next in line.
I’m looking for singers that can reach Rob Hallford’s vocal range.
Do you write the songs by yourself and then you choose the right musicians for it or do you compose the songs together with them? How is it with the lyrics?
I write the songs myself and then choose singers and musicians. Sometimes the singer writes the lyrics etc. I let musicians and singers be pretty free when they record so they can put their mark on the song. Then it’s fun to meet different musicians and talk and create together. You create new contacts and so on.
Your favorite singer/musician you would love to collaborate for a song?
Favorite singers to have on record: Rob Hallford, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Blackie Lawless. Tony Harnell, Jeff Scott Soto, Anette Olzon, Floor Jensen.
I already had one of my favorite singers and that is Göran Edman.
Do you have plans to release an EP or album in the future?
Plans are to release an EP yes, but the date isn’t fixed yet. One single a month now is my goal.
Right now no one thinks about concerts but if the pandemic is over do you have plans to perform the songs live?
When I have released 12 songs I will have concerts. So that’s taking a while.
Do you remember your funniest or/and most weird moment at a concert or in the studio?
Nothing special but it’s always fun to make jokes when you meet. I like to joke with everyone, that’s how I am!
As a fulljob musician do you have any other interests / hobbies to enjoy your freetime?
I have family, wife and 3 teenager and practice spinning and gym.
Do you have any other news, you want to share with your fans?
I have one song that I haven’t decided the singer on yet but I’m waiting until the right singer comes along for it.

Interview mit Patrick Sandström
Was ich in kurzer Zeit über dich lesen konnte ist, du bist ein erfahrener Musiker. Du spielst bzw. hast bereits in verschiedenen Bands gespielt, bist professioneller Musiker und hast jetzt dein eigenes Soloprojekt mit verschiedenen Musikern gestartet. Erzähl uns mehr über deine Karriere.
Ich habe im Alter von 10 Jahren mit Gitarre spielen angefangen. Heavy Metal war meine Mission! Iron Maiden und W.A.S.P waren meine absoluten Lieblingsbands und ich hatte alle Wände in meinem Schlafzimmer voll mit Postern. Ich habe in verschiedenen Bands gespielt und war derjenige, der die Songs geschrieben und die Bands am Laufen gehalten hat. Mit 16 habe ich in der Band Elliott gespielt, die Symphony Rock mit Einflüssen wie Marillion verbanden. Dieser Musikstil führte mich in Jazz und Fusion. Zu dieser Zeit habe ich täglich 4 – 5 Stunden Gitarre geübt. Ich nahm Stunden bei verschiedenen Gitarristen, die Jazz gespielt haben. Danach habe ich einige Jahre Jazz, Pop und Rock studiert und in Jazz Clubs gespielt. 2007 gründete ich die Band Tales of Eden, beeinflusst von Nightwish, und nahm ein Album auf. 2015 war es Circle of Conspiracy, ein Band mit In Flames Einflüssen, die von mir geformt wurde. Circle of Conspiracy erreichte das Finale in Schweden im Wacken Metal Battle Wettbewerb. Peter Ivers von In Flames war einer der Richter, der es uns ermöglichte, ins Finale zu kommen.

Vor 4 Jahren habe ich mein eigenes Studio, The Sand Studio, gegründet. Nach dem Vorbild von Arjen Lucassen’s Star One, in dem er mit verschiedenen Sängern und Musikern zusammenarbeitet, habe ich mein Projekt Sandstroem begonnen. Ich produziere meine Songs von den Aufnahmen bis zum Mixing im eigenen Studio, zusammen mit Jens Bogren und Jacob Hansen, meinen bevorzugten Mix Engineers.
Am 26.03.21 werde ich den Song Stronger mit Sänger Emil Kyrk veröffentlichen. Ein Heavy Metal Song. Am 30.04.21 folgt dann I Will Fall mit Micke Holm (Vocals) und Robin Wernebratt (Drums). Dieser Song ist sehr W.A.S.P. beeinflusst. Micke hat einen Blackie Lawless Touch in seiner Stimme, den ich sehr mag. Ich habe mir vorgenommen, jeden Monat eine Single in verschiedenen Metal Styles zu veröffentlichen. Ein Doom Metal Song ist als nächstes geplant.
Ich bin auf der Suche nach Sängern, die Rob Hallford’s Stimmumfang erreichen.
Schreibst du die Songs alleine und suchst dann nach den passenden Musikern oder komponierst du zusammen mit ihnen die Songs? Wie ist das mit den Lyriks?
Ich schreibe die Songs selbst und wähle dann Sänger und Musiker. Manchmal schreibt der Sänger die Lyriks. Ich lasse den Musikern ihre Freiheiten bei den Aufnahmen, damit sie den Songs ihre persönliche Note geben können. Es macht Spaß, Musiker zu treffen, mit Ihnen zu sprechen und zusammenzuarbeiten. Es ergeben sich daraus neue Kontakte usw.
Mit welchen Sängern/Musikern würdest du gerne für einen Song zusammenarbeiten?
Meine Favoriten für Aufnahmen sind: Rob Hallford, Bruce Dickinson, Geoff Tate, Blackie Lawless, Tony Harnell, Jeff Scott Soto, Anette Olson, Floor Jensen.

Wirst du in naher Zukunft eine EP oder ein Album veröffentlichen?
Ja, mein Plan ist eine EP zu veröffentlichen. Das Datum steht noch nicht fest. Eine Single pro Monat ist jetzt mein Ziel.
Zur Zeit denkt niemand an Konzerte. Hast du Pläne, die Songs live zu präsentieren, wenn die Pandemie vorüber ist?
Sobald ich 12 Songs veröffentlicht habe, möchte ich Konzerte spielen. Das dauert also noch eine Weile.
Erinnerst du dich an einen lustigen oder merkwürdigen Moment auf einem Konzert oder im Studio?
Nichts Spezielles, aber ich mache gerne Späße bei Zusammenkünften. Ich liebe es mit jedem zu Spaßen. So bin ich!
Als hast du als Vollzeitmusiker noch andere Interessen bzw. Hobbies in deiner Freizeit?
Ich habe eine Familie, Frau und 3 Teenager, und ich gehe gerne ins Fitnessstudio.

Ich habe einen Song geschrieben, für den ich noch nicht den passenden Sänger gefunden habe. Also werde ich warten, bis mir der Richtige dafür über den Weg läuft.
