Wann seid ihr mit Musik in Berührung gekommen bzw. habt euch entschlossen Musiker zu werden? Wie habt ihr euch alle kennengelernt?
Stevo: schon von klein auf. Mein Vater hat mir im Windelalter immer schon schön AC/DC auf die Ohren gegeben.
Sid: Bei mir hat es so mit 8/9 angefangen, als ich auch meinen ersten Schlagzeug-Unterricht bekam. Damals hat mir der Vater eines Schulfreundes die „Live Reunion“ von Black Sabbath auf Kassette überspielt, auf den Rest von der 4. Seite kam dann noch so viel Nirvana „Nevermind“ wie drauf passte. Also waren Ozzy und Curt Cobain die Anfange, dann kam ziemlich schnell so alles in Sachen Hard Rock dazu, auch ACDC. Davor bediente ich mich schon an der Schallplattensammlung meiner Eltern: The Beatles, Stones, Deep Purple, etc.. So fing das bei mir an.
Stevo: Malte und Stevo machen schon seit Ewigkeiten Musik zusammen. 2016 gingen die Jungs zur Produktion der EP Hellbound Ride ins Studio. Kurze Zeit später stieg Torger dann als Sänger ein, weil Stevo (bis dahin Gesang) sich voll auf die Gitarre konzentrieren wollte. Ca 6 Monate später kam dann Carsten dazu und als Sidney dann in 2017 dazustieß war die Truppe endlich komplett.
Euer Bandname Godsnake lässt mich an Godsmack oder Whitesnake denken. Zufall oder Absicht? Wer hatte die Idee dazu und hat der Name eine besondere Bedeutung für euch?
Stevo: Es gibt keine tiefere Bedeutung. Wir saßen im Studio beisammen und diskutierten diverse Bandnamen, konnten uns aber nicht so richtig auf einen einigen. Unser Produzent Lasse Lammert schmiss dann den Namen ’Godsnake’ ins Rennen, und mit dem Namen konnten sich alle gut arrangieren.
Wo wir dann schon bei der nächsten Frage sind, welche Bands euch beeinflusst haben bzw. welche Musik ihr selbst gerne hört.
Stevo: Testament, Metallica, Machine Head, Megadeth, aber auch Black Sabbath, ACDC und andere Klassiker
Thema Songwriting, macht ihr das zusammen und wenn ja, wie macht ihr das gerade jetzt, wo man sich ja nicht treffen kann? Wie sehr hat euch die Pandemie bei der Album- und Videoproduktion beeinflusst?
Stevo: Meistens schreibe ich die Songs erst im stillen Kämmerlein. Wir diskutieren dann die Songideen als Band, und diejenigen, die alle gut finden werden dann im Raum gespielt, um zu gucken ob und wie der Vibe ist. Finale Song Arrangements werden dann gemeinsam gemacht.
Sidney: Die Produktion des Albums war Gottseidank nicht betroffen. Release dann leider schon. Als wir im Oktober 2020 das Album veröffentlichten, war der Lockdown schon da, und es konnten keine Gigs / Touren mehr gespielt werden. Bei der Videoproduktion zu Poison Thorn hatten wir Glück, den Dreh konnten wir noch vor dem zweiten harten Lockdown abwickeln. Das haben wir mit Filmregisseur Marko Witzki Anfang September fertiggestellt.
Der Song „Darkness“ sticht für mich aus diesem Album hervor. Er ist anders als die restlichen Songs, melodischer, der Beginn nur mit Gitarre. Was hat euch dazu bewogen? Ich finde ihn übrigens richtig klasse.
Stevo: Uns ist wichtig, variabel zu sein, Abwechslung zu schaffen, wo wir Melodie mit Härte kombinieren. Wir haben noch weitere solcher Nummern, aber Darkness war der Song, den wir uns für das Album ausgesucht haben. Ich hatte zuerst das Intro geschrieben, und den restlichen Song dann später dazu komponiert. Wir wollten hier absichtlich etwas anderes machen, damit wir damit im Albumkontext Abwechslung schaffen konnten. Es ist der Song der als letztes fertig wurde. Die Vocals sind erst beim Recording im Studio entstanden.
Euer Album „Poison Thorn“ wurde am 23.10.2020 veröffentlicht und ihr hattet natürlich bis jetzt keine Möglichkeit, die Songs live zu spielen. Wo gibt’s das Album und Merch zu kaufen, um euch auf diese Weise unterstützen zu können?
Sidney: am besten Bandcamp, aber auch andere Händler wie EMP oder Ballroom Hamburg. Auch bei unserem Label Massacre im Shop ist unsere Scheibe erhältlich. Wir werden mit der Zeit unseren Merch aufstocken. Gibt Ideen über weitere Motive für Shirts, Tank Tops, und more stuff to come.
Habt ihr außerhalb der Musik noch andere Interessen/Hobbies?
Stevo: Jeder macht so’n bisschen was nebenbei. Torger ist Pferdezüchter, Sidney fährt Rennrad, Malt ist Eisenbieger, und Walt ist zertifizierter Biertrinker. Wenn du den irgendwo ohne ner Hülse stehen siehst, dann läuft was falsch. Ich selber mache sehr unerfolgreich Sport.
Wenn Konzerte wieder möglich sind, mit wem würdet ihr gerne mal die Bühne teilen?
Stevo: Da gibts ne Menge Bands die mir einfallen. Wenn ich mich festlegen muss dann würde ich sagen Testament oder Machine Head
Sidney: Für mich sind es dazu noch jede Menge anderer kleiner Bands. Wir sind jetzt gerade auch im Gespräch mit Xentrix ob wir da möglicherweise noch mit als Support aufspringen können für deren anstehende Europa Tournee.
Wird es neue Songs von euch geben bzw. was möchtet ihr euren Fans sonst noch mitteilen?
Stevo: Wir haben die Downtime bedingt durch die Pandemie genutzt und haben anständig Songwriting gemacht. Es sind so ca 16-20 Songs am Start und wir werden da ganz entspannt auswählen was wir da für das nächste Album sehen.
Wir werden dann mit Massacre schauen, wann ein geeigneter Zeitpunkt fürs zweite Album ist. Aber jetzt steht unser Fokus natürlich nach wie vor auf unserem Album Poison Thorn welches ihr euch bitte alle ordentlich auf die Ohren gebt.
Sid: Unseren Fans möchten wir abschließend danken, dass sie uns auch gerade während der Pandemie so großartig unterstützen. Wir haben viel Support für unser Album Poison Thorn bekommen und wir ziehen daraus ne Menge Motivation, um dann auch anständig nachzulegen, sobald es geht. Auch live wollen wir wieder voll durchstarten, so stay tuned….wir werden ne Menge Lärm machen, wenn’s endlich wieder soweit ist.

Interview with Sidney und Stevo from Godsnake
When did you get in touch with music and decided to become a musician? How did you all meet up?
Stevo: as a small kid. My dad always listened to AC/DC.
Sid: I was about 8 or 9 when I started with learning to play drums. A school friend’s dad gave me a cassette with „Live Reunion“ from Black Sabbath and some tracks from „Nevermind“ from Nirvana. So Ozzy and Curt Cobain were the beginning and soon I added everything I got in Hard Rock, also AC/DC. I always used my parents vinyl collection: The Beatles, Stones, Deep Purple, … That’s how it started.
Malte and Stevo always played music together. 2016 they entered the studio to produce their EP Hellbound Ride. Soon Torger joined the band as singer, because Stevo (singer and guitarplayer) wanted to concentrate fully on playing guitar. 6 months later Carsten joined the band and Sidney completed the group in 2017.
Your bandname Godsnake reminds me on Godsmack or Whitesnake. Coincidence or intention? Who had the idea and does it have a special meaning for you?
Stevo: There’s no deeper meaning. We were together in the studio and discussed some bandnames, but we couldn’t agree on one. Our producer Lasse Lammert came up with the name „Godsnake“ and in the end we all came to terms with it.
Which bands influenced you and are you listening to?
Stevo: Testament, Metallica, Machine Head, Megadeth, and also Black Sabbath, AC/DC and other classics.
How is it with songwriting? Are you all involved and how is that going right now with the pandemic? Did it influence your album and video production?
Stevo: For the most I write the songs by myself. We discuss them together and the songs, that all agree with, we play together and look how they act on us. The final song arrangements we do together.
Sidney: The production of the album luckily wasn’t affected, but the release. When the album was released in october, we couldn’t play gigs or a tour because of the lockdown. We had luck with the video production für Poison Thorn, the shoot was done before the second lockdown. We ended the work with the director Marko Witzki in the beginning of september.
The song „Darkness“ is a special one for me. It’s a different one, more melodic and the beginning only with one guitar. What was the reason for this special one? By the way I love it.
Stevo: For us it‘s important to be variable, create variety in combining melody and harshness. We have some more songs like Darkness, but we choosed this one for the album. I wrote the intro first, and later the other parts of the song. We wanted to do something different, to bring some diversity into the album. This song was the last one we finished for the album. The vocals were created during the recording in the studio.
Your album „Poison Thorn“ got released on 23.10.2020 and you didn’t have the opportunity to play the songs live. Where is your album and merch available, to support you in buying it.
Sidney: on Bandcamp, but also on other stores like EMP or Ballroom Hamburg. Also in our label Massacre shop you can buy the CD. We will get new merch in stock again. Some new designs for shirts, tank tops and more stuff to come.
Do you have other interests besides music?
Stevo: We all have hobbies. Torger is horse breeder, Sidney rides a racing bike, Malt is iron bender and Walt is certified beer drinker. Haha! I myself try to do some sport.
If concerts are possible again, which bands would you like to support?
Stevo: I have many bands in my mind. If I have to choose, I‘d take Testament or Machine Head.
Sidney: For me also smaller bands are counting. We are in touch with Xentrix, which we perhaps could support on their European tour.
Do you already have new songs in common and are there any other things you want to tell your fans?
Stevo: We used the pandemic time and worked hard on new songs. There are around 16-20 songs done and we have time now to choose the right ones for the next album.
We will talk with our label Massacre to find the right time for the second album. Our focus is still on our current album „Poison Thorn“ and you should listen to it as much as possible.
Sid: We want to thank our fans for their amazing support especially in these difficult times. We got so much positive reactions for Poison Thorn and therefore our motivation is big to continue with new songs as soon as it’s possible. Also we want to enter the stages again, so stay tuned .. we will make much noise when we enter the stages!!
